Happy Valentine's Day! When I was thinking about what I wanted to post today that would be Love themed, I kept remembering what I wrote about last year, and I decided that it was worth sharing again. I'm happy to say that I still love to love my home, and I hope that you do too.
The phrase "I love to love my home," came to me when I was working on my About page several months ago- and I was trying to get to the heart of why the topics that I cover here are so important to me. I realized that while I invest most of my energy on my family, most of the rest of my energy is spent on my home.
If you think of the word Love as a verb- as an action word- you can probably think of lots things that you could physically do to love someone. I think that the same applies to your home: anything that you do make your home more comfortable, functional, enjoyable, or beautiful are ways that you are "loving your home."
These things are the things that I love to do.
Trust me, I Definitely struggle with the idea of going about some of my daily chores with a smile on my face. I don't exactly love doing laundry- but I love that every morning we all have clean, folded clothes to put on- and for the most part they are well organized in drawers, hangers, or shelves instead of crumpled in a pile somewhere. I don't always love cleaning, but I love the feeling of being able to enjoy a day in a clean house. I actually hate filing thing, but I love having a system in place that allows me to find what I need. (When it comes to decorating though, I really truly do love that part, so it isn't hard to do with a smile on my face).
Love them or not, I try to remind myself that all of the daily tasks are part of a larger picture- one which creates a space that my family and I love to live in.
Decorative tastes aside, I think that we can all admit that it's more appealing to walk into a home that is well cared for and filled with personal touches than to walk into a stark white room filled with piles of junk. The care that we put into our homes directly impacts the mood of everyone that sets foot into it. I love to have a home that I am proud to welcome guests into, and one that is filled with things that make me smile as I walk past them throughout the day. I love the role that I play in keeping this house, and I love that I am able to say that my home is a bit more loveable as a result of the effort that I have put into it.
When you love to love your home, everything from the cleaning, to the organizing, to the decorating, is done with joy in the knowledge that you are making the place where you spend so much of our time feel like someplace that you WANT to spend so much of our time.
How do you love your home?
