If I'm being 100% honest, I'm still struggling a little bit with some aspects of this space. When I started this blog I was full of ideas and projects- and everything was fair game because it was all "new" to my audience. Every room in my house could be at least a post or two, every closet was good for some organizing inspiration, every trip to the store for a new home accessory was an excuse to photograph it and show it off.
If' you've been reading this blog since the beginning you know that it takes me a LONG time to make a decision about a home decor purchase (see our throw pillows and dining room curtains as examples). It's always the last thing on the budget list and I just have a hard time prioritizing it. I love to shop, and if I had unlimited funds I would have a new project and a new purchase every week to show off. But here's the honest truth- I can't spend money on something just for the sake of blogging about it. I don't make any actual money off of this blog and in real life I'm not the type of person that accessorizes my house with new stuff each season, so I shouldn't pretend to be that person on this blog.
So my fall decor this year? It's exactly the same as it was last year. I'm ok with that. My living room (and the rest of my house) will probably be mostly the same for the next few years. I could take a new picture of it, but you've already seen it. Here's year old photos for reference. Photos today would include same stuff, more mess.
Even still, I'm human, and every time this year I get a bit caught up in the Fall Nesting Series(es?), and the "Show Off Your Autumn Craft" parties. If I could only come up with something great, I could photograph it, add my logo, and make sure that everyone I know pins it on Pinterest. That's what a good home blogger would do right?
Or, I could spend that craft money on a bottle of wine and curl up with a blanket and a good book.
I love looking at magazines and Pinterest and other people's blogs for inspiration on projects and decorating...and I assume that's why lots of you are here reading this blog in the first place. But today's message is just to tell you that it's ok if you don't create the perfect Fall Mantle. A shopping spree at Pier One (delightful as it might be!) won't really change anything about your home. There's a delicate balance between loving your home, and keeping up with the Joneses...a line that's easy to step on the wrong side of this time of year. (Only probably less than a hundred shopping days left until Christmas!!!) Just know that I'm right here in the trenches with you trying to find that balance.
Ps: Thanks to everyone for the votes in the Top 25 competition for home management blogs. If you need the link to vote again, here it is.
