Doll Bunting Taggy Blanket

Last Christmas I sewed Becca a really fun Bird and Bunting Quilt to fit her toddler bed.  Well, the only thing that can make a little girl's favorite quilt better is for your doll to have one of her own too.

I actually finished this little project before Anson was born, but didn't get around to sharing it.  I decided to have a little fun with this one and make the flags loose.  I considered it with Becca's original quilt, but decided I didn't want big flags flapping around.  It's a fun variation here though.

I've found with doll blankets that it's best to make them just shorter than the length of the bed with a lot of hang over on the sides.  That way the dolls heads can stick out and the quilt is still long enough to wrap around the doll for carrying around...or long enough to fit three dolls in together for a sleepover.
If you want to make your own, you can download the template for this mini-version here.
The finished quilt here is about 22 inches wide by 18 inches long.  I would have made it a little wider even, except this was all the fabric I had for the background.

It was really a fast little quilt to put together.  I used some homemade bias tape for the "strings" holding the "flags."  I machine quilted it by stitching near the bias tape on the blue fabric on both sides.
For the side with the flags, I just lifted the flag up and sewed underneath.

Bound it with the same bias tape I used for Becca's quilt...

And I think it turned out adorable!

(The backing turned out to be the same fabric I used for the back of Anson's Puzzle Piece Quilt.)

And best of all, Becca loves her quilts.

If you're interested in the design and printable template for the original Bird and Bunting Quilt, you can get that here.
