Curb Appeal

Ever since I bought that new rug for our entryway, I have been thinking about first impressions. What kind of a first impression does my house give off?

Having a nice foyer makes me feel better about my house, and it was a relatively small change. (Although I have to mention that EVERYONE who has walked into my house has commented on it). I can think of a million other small projects that would probably make just as much of a difference...but they all have a price tag on them. Even if it's a small price tag, it's still a price tag.

I enjoy buying things for the house as a treat to myself, but I realize that spending money and buying something new can't always be the answer.  My love for my home shouldn't be dependent on the things that I buy to put inside of it. So I started looking around, trying to think of what I thought might make a difference in my home without actually dropping any cash. My eyes were repeatedly drawn to our front yard.

Our bushes needed pruning, our flower bed needed weeding, the porch could use a good sweeping. So as much as I am dying to go spend the cash to REALLY fix up our front yard with some Mums and brick pavers to line the flower bed, I decided that a little bit of free TLC should probably come first. So I trimmed the bushes, picked the weeds, and swept off the porch. Then I dusted off our lawn chairs, put my feet up and enjoyed the day knowing that I'd done just enough to make my home feel a tiny bit more welcoming.
