Where I live, the first few weeks of September still feel like summer weather, but then as October draws near, the weather tends to dip down into the 60s and never comes back up. Looking ahead at the calendar and the forecast I think those days are coming soon, and some of our wardrobes are ill prepared for the onset of long-sleeved weather.

I finally sat down and organized my girls' closets, and while my youngest is stocked to the brim with hand-me-downs, my oldest has a big ol' empty closet of nothing to wear once the weather changes.
I have had every intention of just picking up a few things here and there for her to supplement her collections of skirts, leggings, and Tshirts. A few pairs of thick tights, some long sleeved shirts and maybe a few sweaters for layering are all that she really needs. And if I can get it all to coordinate with what she currently has, her wardrobes will have tons of flexibility for mixing and matching.

At least in a perfect world.

Am I the only one whose mind goes completely blank when I walk into a clothing store?

Or is it just because I bring both my kids and they are playing hide and seek in the clothing racks that I can't remember for the life of me which color tights would actually work with what we already own?

I've already picked up several things that need to go back to the store because they don't match anything. So from this point forward I'm using 2 approaches.

I love taking outfit shots for my oldest daughter, so that she remembers what matches what. She's still sort of in that stage where pink + pink + pink is a matching outfit, and she'll look like a stick of bubble gum if I don't intervene. I'm going to snap some photos of what she owns so I can look at them while I'm scanning the sale racks for good deals. I also love the whole closet snapshot that I posted here so I can remind myself that we don't need anymore pink shirts.



 Additionally, I think we really need to decide ahead of time what we need. It won't be a hard and fast list because I can't control what's available to buy, but at least I can remind myself that she could really use a white sweater and some gray tights...or some more stripes and stars to go with the polkadots and flowers we already own.
