Today is officially the first day of Fall. Not according to the actual calendar, but according to my school calendar. Summer's over, my little girl starts Kindergarten today. *Sniff* This will forever be ingrained in my mind as the summer that she learned to do a cartwheel.
I know lots of families have spent the last few weeks trying to get a head start on getting their kids into a sensible school year bedtime routine, but luckily for us, we never deviated too far from our old routine in the first place. My kids are like Cinderella's magic carriage: they turn into pumpkins at midnight. Except in our case, it's more like 8:30.
But one routine of ours that needed some serious tweaking to get ready for school was the morning routine. Even though we are early risers, our mornings have been seriously lazy, and when we do leave the house before 9am it's usually just to go the YMCA. With no place to go other than the gym or the pool, our grooming routines have DEFINITELY been on summer vacation.
"Honey, when was the last time you washed the kids hair?"
"Ummmmm.....last Tuesday? But I think they each had a quick shower minus hair washing 3 or 4 days ago, and we went to the pool a few times this week so it's all good."
I've turned into the queen of 3 day old hair, ponytails, and braids. And I'm not going to lie- all of the days at the pool have left us all with some serious crazy hair.
Now that the kids are heading back to school and I will be attempting to disguise myself as a Mom that has her act together, it's definitely time for us to think about taking care of our hair again. Daily showers are going to become a reality instead of merely a thing of folklore. So, since we'll all be bathing regularly again, I figured that now was a great time to try out Dove Intensive Repair Conditioner as a part of a BlogHer Review Program. And, getting free stuff in the mail is so much fun!
As a family full of curly/wavy haired people with serious frizz tendencies, I was all in favor of finding a conditioner that would leave my hair soft and frizz free. I am insanely jealous of my daughter's effortless curls (even though I know that someday she will probably hate them). I know that my hair isn't quite as perfect as hers due to years coloring, blowdrying, straightening, curling, and neglecting. But honestly, after all of that time in the chlorine, even her perfect ringlets were starting to feel like straw.
So, we've been using the conditioner regularly, and guess what? Our hair is pretty again!
I'm not going to pretend like ANYONE walks out of the shower, let's their hair air dry, and looks anything like the models on a TV commercials for hair products. I am fairly confident that my hair would look that amazing too if I had a team of people helping me out. So I wasn't expecting to be able to air dry and look picture perfect, but I have to say, it does a pretty good job. Look ma, no frizz!
My hair is definitely softer and smoother, and it fits perfectly into our morning routine because it's not one of those deep conditioning treatments that you have to leave in forever to see results. My daughter's curls are her trademark perfect ringlets again- minus the crunchy neglected feeling and sweaty kid smell. I guess it's just another way of saying goodbye to summer.
So, now that Fall is "officially" here, what are you most excited about? The cooler weather, the changing colors, having the kids out of the house again?
